About Rev. Joe Donakey

Reverend Joe Donakey is a graduate of Eden Theological School in Webster Grove’s, Missouri.  He joined the staff of St. Paul’s United Methodist as Youth Minister right out of High School in 1975.

A graduate of Centenary College in Shreveport Louisiana, Rev. Donakey has served on the staff of several churches ranging in size from 200 – 4000. He has served as Pastor of Churches in North Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Reverend Donakey loves to lead worship and preach. Reverend Donakey points to  the United Methodist Church of  The Servant as his spiritual home. Worship was a powerful event each week and Dr. Neaves was a true inspiration.

“I believe the head as well as the heart, that is, it should be   intellectually stimulating as well as spiritually and emotionally moving. Worship at its best is a celebration of that which is true and beautiful in life and should inspire us to move from one place where we are in our lives to another place where we hear and sense God leading and directing us.” Worship is intended to speak to people at the level which they personally can be moved and changed.

In addition to having earned a Masters of Divinity degree, Reverend  Donakey has certification training in Spiritual Direction, Spiritual Life Coaching,  and a personal calling to a Spiritual Healing Ministry. He has been serving First United Methodist Church for the past seven years.

“ We have seen God give to us all many, many  blessings  over these years and they just continue to flow!  We have seen the growth of our Youth program, which is one of the finest youth groups I ever seen. I believe our  Wing and a Prayer Ministry is  nothing short of a miracle, made possible by the committed leadership of Becki Bradford and others, but primarily the grace of God! Producing a Broadway Musical Production that welcomes hundred s of people from our community into our church every year is a wonderful joy!  Each year the proceeds from the play benefit local missions. Equally as significant is the Creation of a wonderful sense of Christian community within the cast. One year, some in attendance said they had seen the play on Broadway and enjoyed our production just as much! We have seen record attendance at Vacation Bible School for the last few years, our Pre-School program has a long waiting list and is recognized as one of the finest in South Louisiana. We host a Veterans Breakfast that is standing room only on a regular basis, have started a new Sunday School class, out of which grew our Summer BLAST mission project that serves several thousand children by providing them with a backpack filled with Educational materials for the summer. I think we are just getting started with what God has in store for us.”
