Wing and a Prayer Players is a musical theatre ministry of the church that produces an annual summer musical, usually in mid July, where anyone from age 5 to 105 can participate without having any previous theatrical experience, as it wasn’t a requirement to be a disciple of Christ, or having to auditions.  No one has to audition, since Jesus didn’t ask his disciples to.  Many roles will be doubled and tripled cast to give as many people as possible a chance to shine on stage. Roles will be assigned with priority to church members first, those who have participated before, and then on our ability to honor specific requests. This will not always be possible.Christ believed that ALL had the right stuff to follow him.  Therefore EVERYONE in our show is a STAR!! Lasting memories and friendships develop as part of this family oriented fellowship. Come be a part of this exciting ministry adventure.

Based on other successful musical theatre ministries in New Orleans and Chattanooga. Becki Bradford started  Wing and A Prayer Players at FUMC Hammond. She had a vision that is could be done at her new church. Her passion for theatre and love of ministries drove her request that we put on Broadway Productions each summer. Rev. Donakey was all for it and the success of this ministry has preformed leaps and bounds.

With all SUMMER PERFORMANCE rehearsal schedules, we will do our best NOT to make changes unless absolutely necessary. These productions are “organized chaos” and rehearsed in a shorter time period than most theaters allow. The schedule reflects accommodations made for the various conflicts of the leads. YOU MAKE YOUR OWN COMMITMENT TO REHEARSALS AND THE SHOW. No one will call if you miss a rehearsal but please list all the times you may be away, no matter what size your role. Sports competitions, work-related obligations and even vacations may take you away from rehearsal and performances, but we hope you will make every effort to be here when needed and perform in every show. Theater is an ensemble art, and EVERY PERSON is important from the one line role to the leads.

The costumes will be provided as much as possible, but you may be asked to provide some items. We will also need assistance with set/costume design and construction.

During the performances, parents of school-age cast will be requested to assist in chaperoning or work refreshments. Information on this request will be distributed later during the rehearsal process.

Rehearsals typically begin the last few weekends in May. (Dates of this year’s 1st rehearsals will be posted when they become available.) However, if you are not able to attend the rehearsals we don’t want that to stop you from getting involved. In the past, people have joined our cast just a few weeks before performances which are held in July. Practice schedules are given out at the first practices along with parts so you know when you come to practice. This ministry understands that lives have to be flexible so come as often as you can.
